Materials Manager

Magnum Recruiting has partnered with a leading manufacturer of heavy equipment. Together we are in search of a Materials Manager for their location in Niagara Falls, ON. Position Summary: Plan, organize, direct, manage, evaluate, and is responsible for the material management activities and budget of the organization, including the identification of opportunities for operational improvements. This includes supervising and coordinating the activities of others.

1. Purchasing 15%
  • As new or additional materials or supplies become necessary, materials managers work with all areas to develop the plan and set data.
  • Locate vendors that can provide the supplies, machinery or other equipment in a timely manner, with favorable terms of sale
  • Identify cost savings opportunities and execute
  • Identify inventory issues-scrap, reuse etc
  • Execute purchase orders for High Value materials - Platforms, Epsilon, Cranes
  • Update various reports
  • Follow up on Purchased material
2. Processing 20%
  • A materials manager reviews and processes the requisitions for materials the company acquires
  • These include records of the goods, materials, supplies and services received, as well as any other information or documentation required by law, regulation or policy
  • Consumption of material as well as other tasks associated with material movement and accurate inventory
  • Maintains purchase histories, info records etc on the vendors
  • Reviews and analyzes vendor performance periodically to assess the vendor's suitability and the availability of supplies over time
3. Management 10%
  • Manages a department staff including warehouse, in addition to the details of purchasing and procurement
  • Manage KPI's and  various goals and  priority setting
  • Conduct performance reviews
4. Logistics 30%
  • Develop solutions/plans for timely loading of material
  • Approve freight movements
  • Maintain relationships with carriers
  • Monitor freight movement to  meet  production and financial requirements
  • Plan or implement material flow management systems to meet production  requirements
  • Maintain on time delivery results
5. SAP Master Data /Planning 25%
  • Schedule shop based on customer demand and production capacities
  • Create new master data as required
  • Develop better or improved processes with master data
  • Develop the forecast in SAP at the top level with configurations
  • Execute Phase in/out of materials for cranes

Minimum required skills: work experience, education, language and computer skills, physical & technical requirements
Work experience
  • 5+ years experience in related field
  • 5+ years Supervisor / Management experience
  • Post Secondary school, Technical, Business & HR a plus
  • Lean Principles & other quality systems
  • Health & Safety
